KANLAON VOLCANO BULLETIN
03 July 2006

Kanlaon Volcano (10°24.7’N, 123°7.9’E) manifested
another episode of ash-steam emission from 5:51 AM to
6:05 AM this morning. The ash-steam column rose to a
height of 500 meters above the active crater before
being drifted to the northeast direction. The
seismograph at Cabagnaan, La Castellana, Negros
Occidental recorded ten (10) volcanic earthquakes
while the seismograph at Sto. Bama near Guintubdan in
La Carlota City, Negros Occidental recorded eight (8)
localized seismic events during the past 24-hour
observation period.

The above manifestations of Kanlaon volcano indicate
that the unrest is not yet over. Thus, PHIVOLCS
maintains Alert Level 1 over Kanlaon Volcano. The
public is reminded not to venture inside the four (4)
kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) because
steam and ash explosions may impact this zone. In
addition, areas just outside the PDZ but facing
gullies leading to the upper slopes should be avoided
because lahars and rockfalls may affect these areas
especially during heavy rains over the volcano’s
slopes.
